And that page has generated 8.88K total backlinks.

Here’s the step-by-step process:

First, discover a part of content inside your industry that’s already performed well (with regards to links).

1. Your first step is to use sites with your industry which have:

Changed names
Moved to an alternative URL
Stopped offering a service
Stopped updating a resource
Shut down

2. Our the second step is to locate sites still linking to the old, outdated URL

Why do Ultimate Guides work so well?

First, comprehensive guides have a tendency to contain A LOT of content on a single page. In fact, my help guide to linking can be a whopping 4,834 words.

According to a lot of SEO ranking factor studies (including ours), long-form content will perform better in Google than short articles:

And since your guide will be the “go-to” resource for a topic, men and women url to it whenever they talk about that topic on their blog:

1. Your first step is usually to locate a topic on your guide.

This is very important.

You wish to select a popular topic that hasn’t been covered to death already.

And several of these subtopics each became chapters of my guide:

3. Lastly, write your Ultimate Guide.

And remember:

Don’t hesitate to cover EVERYTHING there would be to know of a topic.

That way, the best guide is going to be viewed as THE definitive resource.

(And like I mentioned earlier, longer content tends to build more backlinks, shares… and rankings in Google)

Let’s jump straight into strategy #6.

6. Use Branded Strategies and Techniques
Remember strategy #3 because of this guide?

You may have realized that I didn’t just outline the tactic… I also named it.

In fact, due to naming my strategy, people link to my content on The Moving Man Method all the time:

Now which you’ve seen how well this may work, it’s time to cover the precise steps:

Step #1: Develop a Unique Strategy, Tip or Tactic

This sounds hard… however it isn’t.

All you have to do is think of a strategy which has SOMETHING unique about this.

(In short, the complete strategy doesn’t should be unique)

For example, let me go over The Moving Man Method.

People have used broken building links included in their link building campaigns for ages.

So what made my strategy different?

My unique twist was that the links weren’t necessarily broken (such as, they didn’t necessarily show a 404 error).

The links I used for The Moving Man Method technically worked… they were just outdated:

Step #2: Next, name your strategy.

I called my strategy The Moving Man Method because you’re helping the site owner “move” their link.

Not one of the most creative name, but it provides the job done.

So yeah, make absolutely certain the name describes what your strategy does.

Other than that, try to use one of them words within your strategy name:

Step #3: Publish the tactic in a blog post.

Your last step would be to show folks that your strategy is proven to work.


Publish your strategy inside form of a blog post (preferably a case study).

You might be wondering

“OK, that’s great. But how can I get links from resource pages”?

Like every strategy in this post, I’ll walk you through the step-by-step process:

First, you need to find resource pages.

These may be tricky to locate. Very few people call their resource page a “resource page”.

Instead, people usually describe their pages with terms like:

“helpful resources”

“useful resources”

“further reading”

“additional resources”

So to get these pages, you only need to search for these terms… along with a keyword.

For example, let’s say you only published a write-up about backlink building.

You’d perform a Google search applying this keyword:

Second, now that you just’ve found a resource page, it’s time for it to reach out and (nicely) ask for a hyperlink.

(Pro Tip: Check the resource page for outdated or broken links BEFORE you reach out. Letting the someone know regarding broken link can 2-5x your conversion rate when compared with sheer getting a web link)

Every once and a while someone will mention you in a short article…

…but won’t actually hyperlink to your website.

Here’s a good example:
